This is the site of an ancient hill fort built 2500 to 2700 years ago. It covers an area of 13 hectares within the much larger area of forest owned by the Crown Estate. The area was planted with conifers in the 1950's. These have now been cleared, and the site returned to heathland. The ramparts and surrounding area have beech and sweet chestnut trees.
